The hydraulic architecture of an arborescent monocot: ontogeny‐related adjustments in vessel size and leaf area compensate for increased resistance

چکیده

Bamboos are arborescent monocotyledons that have no secondary growth, but can continually produce conduits with diameters appropriate to the current size of plant. Here, we studied bamboo hydraulic architecture address mechanisms involved in compensating for increase resistance during ontogeny. We measured weighted vessel (Dh) at different distances from apex along stem Bambusa textilis. The components and individuals heights were quantified using high-pressure flowmeter method. Dh showed tip-to-base widening a scaling exponent range those reported trees. Although theoretical conductivity decreased base-to-tip, leaf-specific did not change. Leaves contributed most whole-shoot resistance, followed by leaf-bearing branches. Roots c. 13% whole-plant resistance. Interestingly, taller lower owing an increased number resistances parallel (side-branches), while was independent plant size. Tip-to-base height-independent constant conductance could be optimization B. Similar patterns also been found woody plants this exhibits them without growth.

Decline of leaf hydraulic conductance with dehydration: relationship to leaf size and venation architecture.

Across plant species, leaves vary enormously in their size and their venation architecture, of which one major function is to replace water lost to transpiration. The leaf hydraulic conductance (K(leaf)) represents the capacity of the transport system to deliver water, allowing stomata to remain open for photosynthesis. Previous studies showed that K(leaf) relates to vein density (vein length p...

the search for the self in becketts theatre: waiting for godot and endgame

this thesis is based upon the works of samuel beckett. one of the greatest writers of contemporary literature. here, i have tried to focus on one of the main themes in becketts works: the search for the real "me" or the real self, which is not only a problem to be solved for beckett man but also for each of us. i have tried to show becketts techniques in approaching this unattainable goal, base...
